Our Woolwich youth service needs your help

Located in the heart of Woolwich Dockyard, our youth club has served this local community for generations.

Delivered by our committed trauma informed youth team, we offer a safe place for children to enjoy a range of positive activities, designed to help young people engage, meet friends and develop confidence, skills & interests.

This provision is free to attend and it is vital that this continues to be the case, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their circumstance.

The discovery of RAAC and subsequent closure of our purpose-built Woolwich youth club, has resulted in the loss of our only source of income to fund this service. We are currently operating from an alternative space but incurring additional costs, and as a result our youth services are now at serious risk of closure.

Woolwich Youth Zone - YMCA THAMES GATEWAY GROUP

At the heart of the Woolwich community, our youth clubs provide a safe-space and positive opportunities for local children and young people. With two sessions each week, one for 8-12 year olds, the other for 13-18-year-olds, we provide a full and varied programme, shaped by the young people who attend.

Activities include arts, crafts, cooking, music recording, sports, games, holiday activities and trips. We promote skills, support resilience and healthy lifestyles. These opportunities for self-expression, friendship, creativity and development of positive interests, helps promote re-engagement with school, mental health and positive pathways away from unemployment, crime and violence. 

Our team have many years of combined youthwork experience and includes two qualified counsellors. Our evidence-based and trauma informed approach provides positive role models, access to trusted adults, a listening ear and bridges the gap in wellbeing support for our young people.
